'Light Blues' hunt fifth win
Many-time champions St George's College will hunt their fifth win and continue to keep a clean sheet when they oppose Denham Town in the ISSA/FLOW Manning Cup Group D encounter at Winchester Park today, starting at 3:30 p.m.
The game was originally scheduled as a home game for Denham Town, but switched to StGC's home because the Edward Seaga Sports Complex where Denham Town hosts games is not yet ready.
StGC chalked their fourth win from as many games when they defeated Vauxhall 3-0 last Friday. The win pushed the Neville 'Bertis' Bell-coached team to 12 points. They have scored 13 times and conceded none in a wonderful start in the Manning Cup.
Now, the Light Blues will look to build on that. Nathaniel Campbell scored a brace three days ago, and is StGC's top scorer on four goals. He should get support from captain Matthew Wilson in midfield and central defender Arsenio Hamilton.
Assistant coach Marcel 'Fuzzy' Gayle is expecting a tough battle today.
"Every team is competent. We expect a good game from Denham Town on Monday. They have a good coach, who is tactical and will come with a plan," Gayle told STAR Sports ahead of the game.
Bottom-place Tarrant
With regards to the fine start, Gayle said that the team is getting better with each game.
"We have not conceded any goal in four games and that is good. We have been scoring, so the team is getting better," he shared.
Meanwhile, Denham Town picked up their first win in the group when they defeated Tarrant 2-0 last Friday. The win moved them ahead of bottom placed Tarrant.
"We picked up our first points in the win against Tarrant. This could boost the confidence of the team going up against the group favourites St George's College," coach of Denham Town Omar Edwards said.
"We have not started well, losing the first three games. Now, we are playing catch up and hope to leave St George's with a result," he added.
Denham Town will rely on captain Oshane Senior and Paul Hendricks who both scored against Tarrant, as well as striker Shamar Thompson, Kimarley Balls and Malik Goldson.
