Man shot dead after alleged shootout with cops in Frazer's Content

A man was shot dead after he allegedly pulled a handgun and opened fire at police during a confrontation in Frazer's Content, St Catherine, yesterday afternoon.

The unidentified man was fatally shot during an alleged gun battle involving members of the St Catherine North Special Operations Unit and Street Crime Bond Unit.

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has since launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Reports are that about 3:58 p.m., the police teams were conducting patrols in Spanish Town when they received information that a man dressed in blue shorts and a blue shirt was allegedly seen brandishing a firearm in Frazer's Content.

The teams responded to Frazer's Content Main Road, where they reportedly spotted a man matching the description.

The man was allegedly approached by the police, who identified themselves.

However, investigators say he then pulled a handgun and fired at the police while running into a premises.

The cops reportedly took evasive action and returned fire.

The man was subsequently found suffering from gunshot wounds and clutching the firearm.

The weapon was recovered and identified as a .38 revolver containing two live rounds and three spent casings.
