St Catherine man gets $500,000 bail over tampered chassis

A St Catherine man accused of driving a vehicle with a tampered chassis number has been granted $500,000 bail after his attorney argued that he had no knowledge anything illegal had been done to the car.

Michael Williams, 32, of Spanish Town, appeared before Senior Parish Court Judge Desiree Alleyne in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday.

His attorney, Earl Hamilton, successfully applied for bail, telling the court that his client had nothing to hide and was unaware that the vehicle's chassis number had allegedly been altered.

Williams was granted $500,000 bail on condition that he reports to the Bog Walk Police Station three times weekly.

He is scheduled to return to court on October 6, 2026, when the matter will again be mentioned.

According to the allegations, on July 17, 2026, police stopped a motor car in Spanish Town and, while examining its documents, discovered that the vehicle's chassis number had allegedly been tampered with.

Williams was taken into custody and later charged with unlawful possession of property.
