Information Minister Dr Dana Morris Dixon says 77 per cent of Jamaica is now without electricity following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.

She says the least affected parishes were St Thomas, St Catherine, Kingston and St Andrew. About 70 water systems out of over 700 islandwide were down last night, Morris Dixon informs.

He says it is too early to say what's the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa,which made landfall in Jamaica as a category 5 system.

She says assessments are to be carried out in the coming days.

Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness is to tour Manchester, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland and St James today.
