Cavalier's unfamiliar struggles in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) continued on Sunday at Ferdi Neita Park, after they fell 1-0 to host Portmore United.

Tarick Ximines scored the all-important goal 68 minutes into the game, for Portmore to stay third in the table on 36 points.

The result meant Cavalier lost sixth place as they remained on 26 points, two adrift of Tivoli Gardens FC in fifth and seven behind Mount Pleasant Football Academy in fourth.

And Waterhouse, which started the day in seventh on 24 points, grabbed the opportunity to jump into sixth place with a 1-0 win over Treasure Beach FC in the late game at Drewsland Mini Stadium Waterhouse, now on 27 points, have seen an uptick in form since the arrival of their new coach Javier Ainstein, registering their third consecutive victory.

Champions Cavalier have been having things tougher than usual this term, after parting ways with most of last season's title-winning team. Sunday's loss was their third in succession.

Nevertheless, assistant coach David Laylor says they still aim to make the most of the campaign.

"This season is a rebuilding season, notwithstanding, we want to do our best but we are still rebuilding and taking the positives out of it, and going forward we still hope to do our best," he stated.

"We always want to stay in the top six but at the end of the day we will have other opportunities to do so. We have a lot of games left to get back in the top six. So we are striving for it (top six) and it's a work in progress for us," he added.

CONFIDENCE

Portmore's Rodolph Austin was happy to get his first win in four games, and to get it against the defending champions.

"It has been a good while we haven't won but it's football. It's good to win against a team like Cavalier. It will give us some confidence going into the next game" he said.

Meanwhile, league leaders Montego Bay United registered their third straight win, and sixth in seven unbeaten games, after crushing Molynes United 3-0 at Jarrett Park.

Nashordo Gibbs (18th), Brian Brown (62nd) and Jourdain Fletcher (68th) scored for MoBay United, who are seven points clear of Racing United at the top.

Racing also got three goals, in their 3-1 win over Spanish Town Police. Tajay Grant (48th, 70th) led with a brace, while Nickyle Ellis netted the other.

Andre Clennon had put Spanish Town Police ahead in the 25th minute.

Spanish Town Police remain at the foot of the table on nine points.

TOP-FOUR SUCCESS

Mount Pleasant completed the round of victories for the top four teams, with Raheem Edwards (1st, 89th) supplying a brace in a 2-0 win over Chapelton Maroons.

At Harbour View Mini Stadium, Oquassa Chong's added-time goal earned the host a draw on Lenworth Hyde's coaching debut this season.

Nichalia Fuller gave Tivoli the lead in the 13th minute and restored their advantage in first half stoppage time, after Ricardo Oldfield tied the game in the 20th.

However, Chong's late strike ensured a share of the spoils for the host.

Harbour View are still second from bottom on 16 points.
