The Jamaica Football Federation's (JFF) technical committee revealed that it has close to 10 applications for the Reggae Boyz's head coach job.

This follows the resignation of head coach of Jamaica's senior men's national football team, Steve McClaren on Tuesday night, after the Reggae Boyz played to a 0-0 draw with Curacao and failed to secure automatic qualification to next year's World Cup.

"There were people on our earlier shortlist. We have other people too. So when the committee meets, we will be looking back at those and look at the new ones and see what's the best decision to take," Rudolph Speid, chairman of the committee, revealed.

"Any coach who comes to the job... if they do not know everything about the team they are probably not the person to employ.

"So when we do the interviews we will ask if they know anything about the team and if they know the players," Speid noted. "And any coach that wouldn't have come that prepared probably shouldn't get the job.

"The problem should be familiarising himself with local culture and things we are comfortable or not comfortable with. But otherwise, picking the players and knowing them, I don't think should be an issue," he said.

The Reggae Boyz still have a chance to qualify for next year's football showpiece, through the intercontinental playoffs in Mexico in March.

Jamaica go into the intercontinental draw with Iraq, Democratic Republic of Congo, Bolivia, Suriname and New Caledonia.

The draw takes place today at FIFA's headquarters in Zurich.

Speid insists they must get their house in order and make sure they are fully prepared for the challenge in March.

"We have to see what went wrong here and see if we can do better, re the next stage of the qualifiers in Mexico.

"If I was in a group like this to qualify for the World Cup I wouldn't be losing any sleep," he said.

He admitted that there are better teams in the intercontinental playoffs than Concacaf's final round Group B. However, he says Jamaica must remain positive.

"Congo and Iraq will be the two seeded teams. We will not play Suriname. So we will play Bolivia or New Caledonia," he shared. "Those are not teams that we can't beat. We have beaten better teams than those. So when it happens we just don't need to panic, and plan accordingly.

"So we will go into this intercontinental qualifiers with a positive attitude to get the job done."
