The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the latest police fatal shooting after an unidentified man was killed during a pre-dawn operation in Hungry Town, St Andrew, on Thursday.

Reports are that around 4:50 a.m., security forces carried out a major operation across several locations in the St Andrew North Police Division. During the raid, a man was fatally shot in Hungry Town, which runs off Mannings Hill Road, and a firearm with ammunition was reportedly seized. The nearby "Big Yard" area of Mannings Hill was also targeted as the police and military intensified their presence.

The incident adds to Jamaica's rising tally of fatal police shootings. As of September 25, 2025, some 230 people have been killed in alleged confrontations with the police. INDECOM data show that 20 of those incidents occurred in September alone. By comparison, there were 189 fatal shootings for the entire year of 2024.

Meanwhile, police say they have seized 47 illegal guns so far this year in the St Andrew North Division.

Lawmen are also appealing for several men wanted for murder to turn themselves in at the Constant Spring Criminal Investigation Branch or the nearest police station. They are:
