In-form Waterhouse central defender Roshawn Amos has credited head coach Javier Ainstein for his improved form this season as he sets his sights on breaking into the national programme.

Since the arrival of the Argentine-born Ainstein, who replaced Marcell Gayle at the Drewsland-based Waterhouse FC in January, Amos has become a mainstay in the team, starting every match and playing a key role in the club's improved fortunes.

"Our coach has installed a lot motivation in his players and I am one of them," said Amos. "When he just came to the club, he sat me down and he spoke to me and told me, 'Amos I see you as a key player in the team and I need you to transform your game to become one of the top defenders in the league so that we can go on and win the league'," he said.

"He is a great coach because very single day he motivates his players at training and during our games."

The 23-year-old Amos, who represented Arnett Gardens in the past, added that his recent performances are proof of his growth, having finally been given the consistent opportunities he craved.

"I think that I have answered his call quite well because every time that I step out onto the field my game has been improving and I know that I have been playing quite well for the team," he said.

"I think this form that I am in now, I have known that I have it in me, but I just needed game time, which I wasn't getting before this coach came to the club in January," Amos stated.

"I always wanted to show everyone that I am a top defender, but now everything is coming together for me. The feedback from the spectators has been great because almost every match that we play, people are telling me that I am the man of the match and I love that feeling."

TURNAROUND

Waterhouse's turnaround has been significant. Once struggling, the team has climbed to fifth in the standings on 56 points, level with Racing United FC and Portmore United FC, who occupy third and fourth, respectively.

Amos, a former standout at Calabar High School, is confident the team can push even further and go on to the win the title.

"I think that we can definitely win the title because of the form that we are in and the coach that we have. I know that we can win the league this season," he said.

Amos also shared that his personal ambitions include playing overseas and representing Jamaica at the international level.

"My main goal is get a contract overseas and also be part of the national programme," he said. "I have been working very hard on the pitch and off pitch to achieve these goals.

"Whenever I don't have training, I will go and run the hills and I am putting in the extra work by myself. I am lot fitter right now and I'm also feeling very energetic right now," Amos underscored.
