Battle on for ISSA U16 basketball final
TEAMS will be seeking an early advantage when the semi-final round of the urban ISSA under-16 basketball competition gets under way today at two venues, starting at 3 p.m.
St George's College will be at home to Wolmer's Boys', and Campion College will host Jamaica College (JC). Teams scoring two wins, as this round is a best-of-three series, will advance to the final.
All four teams had comfortable wins in their quarter-final matches, with JC registering the most impressive result after beating Ardenne 72-33. Siedu Hamm led the scoring with 26 points.
Their opponents, Campion, advanced after getting past Excelsior 66-52, with Xavier Bhoorasing contributing 20 points.
Following their emphatic 73-45 win over St Andrew Technical High School, where Davean Gayle top-scored with 17 points, St George's College will start favourites against Wolmer's.
Wolmer's secured their semi-final spot with a 43-28 victory over Kingston College, as Alex Farquharson led their scoring with 19 points.
Semi-final action in the under-19 competition, which was previously slated for today, will instead be played tomorrow. Defending champions Campion will host Camperdown, while JC, who are like Campion unbeaten this season, will be at home to St George's College. Both games are scheduled to tip off at 3 p.m.
