Man killed in alleged showdown with police in Greater Portmore

A late evening police operation along Port Henderson Road in Greater Portmore turned deadly yesterday after an alleged armed confrontation ended with a man being shot and killed by lawmen, triggering a probe by the Independent Commission of Investigation.

The deceased has not yet been identified.

Reports are that about 6:40 PM on February 18, 2026, police personnel were on operation in the vicinity of Marine Park when they reportedly encountered an armed man.

Lawmen say an alleged confrontation developed and they were forced to take defensive action. The man was shot and injured during the incident.

He was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
